Our Trustees

We have a team of nine experienced trustees who provide strategic oversight and direction for the organization. Our Trustees listed below, are experts drawn from a number of relevant fields, including: renewable energy, business, development, and policy making.

Alex Hassan – Chairman

Alex has a Computer Science degree from Cambridge University and spent 22 years working in IT for leading investment banks. After deciding to leave the City, Alex became interested in renewable energy and the opportunities it offers both here and overseas.  He a director of Baywind, the UK’s first co-operatively owned wind farm, and High Winds, its successor.  Alex became involved with Renewable World when he raised money by climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in 2013, subsequently contributing to Renewable World’s strategy and joining the Board of Trustees as Chair in January 2015


Catherine Adams – Treasurer

Catherine Adams works as a Risk Specialist at the Prudential Regulation Authority where she is a Supervisor for large Investment Banks. Catherine is a qualified accountant and has a Masters in Business from London Business School.  Before working in regulation she worked for over 20 years in Investment Banking and has been the Finance Director for the UK subsidiary of a large European bank. Catherine has been involved in fund raising campaigns for Oxford University, London Business School and Ace Africa.



Sarah Donnelly – Vice Chair

Sarah has over fifteen years experience working within the charitable sector, with expertise in major donor fundraising. After graduating in Geography and Environmental Issues, Sarah spent twelve years with Friends of the Earth, the world’s largest international environmental campaigning network. She began her career supporting national and international policy and campaigns before joining the major donor and trusts fundraising team, raising significant funds from private individuals, trusts and foundations and public advocates. Sarah was a key member of the climate change fundraising team which enabled Friends of the Earth to secure the world’s first climate change law in 2008. Currently managing the High Value fundraising programme at the RSPCA, Sarah remains passionate about climate change, sustainability and environmental justice and joined the trustees of Renewable World in February 2014.

Gemma Grimes

Gemma Grimes is Director of Onshore Renewables at RenewableUK where she oversees all aspects of onshore wind development policy. Having initially trained in industrial design in Newcastle she worked in North America and Asia before gaining a Masters in planning at London South Bank University. Gemma is a Chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute and currently chairs the RTPI’s energy policy committee. Gemma has been a trustee for Renewable World since 2010.


Jeremy Taylor

A highly experienced leader, CEO, and Director in the fields of international development, education, health and social care.  He has been involved for many years with roles in Africa, the Middle East, China and Eastern Europe through his extensive professional networks, and is an alumnus of the UK Government Cabinet Office Top Management Programme. He has an MBA from the University of Manchester. He was for 15 years a CEO in NHS Trusts in Scotland and England before moving into the commercial and charity sectors. He is a qualified teacher, executive coach and for ten years has been  a “Manchester Gold” University student mentor. From 2011 to 2014 he led Aegis Trust’s  business administration and social enterprise activities, helping develop peace-education and genocide prevention initiatives in Rwanda, winning major grant support from DfID and the Swedish International Development Authority. He led the international component of the Government of Rwanda’s “Kwibuka 20” commemoration in 2014. He also provides pro-bono support to Oxfam and the UK’s “International Citizen Service” initiative.

Stephen Balint

Stephen has held a wide variety of technical and managerial roles during almost 40 years in the electricity generation industry. This has included research and development, project management, business development, operations management, strategy and communications. Stephen joined the management team of RES, an international developer, constructor, owner and operator of renewable energy projects, in 2003 and has played a key role in their strategic development and growth. He is currently leading a change programme that aims to make their projects fully competitive with conventional sources of energy.


Peter Weston

Peter has 19 years’ experience working in the energy and renewables markets as an investor, leader and strategic adviser. He is currently global head of finance and investment in the power division of MAN, a leading supplier of energies for flexible and decentralised power plants in both developed and emerging markets. He is also a Non-Executive Director of Triodos Renewables, a community-oriented investor in small-sized renewable energy projects. Prior to this, he was responsible for customer financing solutions at Siemens Wind, a global manufacturer of wind turbines. He led the energy lending divisions of GE Capital in Europe and was an executive director for the energy group of German bank West LB. Peter has a BA in Economics and Politics from the University of Warwick.

Louise Heaps


Louise currently works for WWF as chief advisor to Marine as well as sitting on a number of WWF network steering committees and boards. She is an environmentalist and programme leader with twenty five years’ experience of working in NGO, public and private sector organisations. Louise is currently completing her Executive One Planet MBA at the University of Exeter with a focus on corporate sustainability.



Patrick Davis

Patrick Davis
Patrick has worked for RWE npower since 2014 where he heads up strategy for the Domestic customer business. Patrick started his career in Pharmaceutical Consulting specialising in sales force design and portfolio planning before moving to EDF Energy in 2011. There he held management positions in their Customer Acquisition Team. He has been involved in growth strategy, long term planning, commercial optimisation, and financial modelling. Patrick holds a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering (honours) from the University of Michigan as well as a masters degree in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan (USA)
