Global Wind Day win for Vestas

June 17, 2012

On a suitably blustery day in West London, staff from four companies participated in the first Global Wind Day football tournament. Mainstream Renewable Power, Vestas Celtic and Broadview Energy all put on their footy gear for the event to compete against the organisers  Earth Wind & Hire, a recruitment consultancy specialising in the wind industry, in order to raise money for Renewable World.

Each game was played at a high tempo and with a good level of competiveness. After some memorable games and goals it was Vestas that were to emerge triumphant with a resounding 5v2 victory over Mainstream in the Grand Final. The boys from Manchester were led superbly by skipper Mark Hoste and were deserved champions after winning most of their games at a canter.
Mainstream finished in respectable second place with Earth Wind & Hire clinching third after narrowly beat Broadview Energy 4v3 in an exciting playoff match.
The event raised £555 for Renewable World and was enjoyed by all. Earth Wind & Hire, who covered all the costs of the tournament so that the team’s entry fees could all go to Renewable World,  will be looking to make this tournament an annual fixture in the renewable energy calendar and are hoping next year’s event will be even bigger and better.
Renewable World Marketing Director, Melaie Matthews commented:
“This is a fantastic idea – bringing companies from the wind industry together to raise money for the industry’s favourite charity, whilst having great fun, and engaging in some handy networking in between games.  It really is “win-win-win”.  We are delighted that the first event went so well and hope by next year we will have enough staff to field a team of our own!!”
