Run to the Beat!

September 10, 2013

On Sunday September 8th, 21 heroes in green took to Greenwich Park to take part in a half marathon with a difference – Run to the Beat.

Before the event

The runners, from 11 different organisations, took on the 13 mile course, raising thousands of pounds in the process, to help our work providing the energy communities in the developing world need to lift themselves from poverty.

And after their exertions, they were able to watch and listen to some of the UK’s best-known singers and musicians.

The runners who took their place at the start line with 19,000 others, were: John Lang, from Renewable UK, Jack Channing, from Renewable World, Matt Gosling and Ilya Nozhnik from the Green Investment Bank Alice Maynard from GL Garrad Hassan, Christophe Banos and Michael Anketell from EDF-ER, Adam Davies, Jake Macey, Ben Hough, Nick Darke and Andrew Brice, from Matchtech, Sarah Husband, Stephen Balint, Ian Clark and Maciej Drahusz from RES, Nicky Kerr from the Cabinet Office, Nicola Darvill from Ofgem, Emma Gains from Atkins and Georgina Kerr.

They took on the course, including a difficult uphill final stretch, powered on by motivational music from speaker points along the way, and were then able to spend time ‘warming down’ to musicians and DJs including Jessie J and the Panjabi Hit Squad.

Their efforts mean we can continue to use renewable resources and technology to deliver power to remote, off-grid communities in the developing world. Those communities, in turn, use the power to improve education, health, water access and standards, hygiene, training, crop production, nutrition and incomes.

We just want to say a massive thank you to them all, and to let you know you can make a donation and find out more here.
