Statement about Renewable World and novel coronavirus (COVID-19)

At this time of global crisis, we here at Renewable World hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and well. The world-wide nature of the emergency underlines just how inter-connected we are and how much we all rely on the support of others to get through what is an unparalleled situation.

This is a brief update on how Renewable World is working within the COVID-19 guidance to continue to implement our work and deliver on our commitment to helping the poorest and hardest to reach communities in Nepal and Kenya in these challenging times.

Like others in the UK, we have taken steps to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our teams, including a working from home policy in the UK and a ban on non-essential international and national travel. Similar measures have also been deployed in Nepal and Kenya as required. We have also revised delivery plans and looked at contingency measures to ensure that once travel restrictions are lifted we can continue to deliver our work safely, without risk of spreading the virus, or endangering staff or people in the communities we work in.

This will mean pushing back project start dates in some instances and revising delivery schedules, but we will of course liaise directly with project supporters to let them know, where this is the case.

However, this is a dynamic and rapidly evolving situation, so we will be reviewing our position on a weekly basis and will keep those of you who wish to be kept informed, up to date with our plans.

I’d like to thank all our supporters for the offers of help received so far and those of our supporters who have expressed their willingness to work flexibly around existing funding commitments. Please know that we will do our utmost to reciprocate your support and flexibility and to provide timely communications about our work and plans.

Despite this, there is little doubt that our income and therefore our impact will decrease. We are already experiencing delayed income as events are postponed and loss of income from those of our supporters whose giving depends on a thriving economy. As a relatively small charity, even these modest changes can have a big impact, so we’re asking all our supporters to continue to work with us during these challenging times so that we can continue with our ambitious plans as soon as the situation stabilises.

Now, more than ever, we need to work together as a global community. Thank you once again for your ongoing support and commitment to our work

With best wishes
