Statement regarding Raleigh International

We were extremely saddened to hear of the closure of Raleigh International on 19th May this year.

In 2021, Renewable World and Raleigh International secured DFID/FCDO funding for a joint project focusing on improving access to water, sanitation and hygiene in the western district of Gorkha in Nepal. Unfortunately, funding for the project was cancelled in the wake of the UK Government’s aid spending cuts.

In the intervening period, Renewable World and Raleigh International worked together to secure alternative funding for the project. While Renewable World was successful, unfortunately Raleigh International was unable to meet its funding commitment for the project.

With funds already committed to Renewable World for the project, we now intend to move ahead with the project independently. While this presents significant challenges, we remain committed to the project’s aim of reaching some of the poorest people in Gorkha with access to safe water.

We have been in touch with the project’s principal funders and look forward to sharing further news on the project in due course.
