Event Overview

Earth Wind & Tyre is a 100-mile, wind-themed cycle challenge. The event unites teams and individuals from across the renewable energy industry and beyond to raise funds for Renewable World. Participants can take part in person or virtually, making it a cycling challenge open to all ages and abilities, and from wherever you are in the world!

Earth Wind & Tyre is an event with wind at its heart. The route of the physical event was designed to pass by a number of onshore wind farms, in celebration of renewable energy and the possibilities it holds to change our world.

The Physical Event

If you would like to join us in person, then sign up for the physical event. It is a one-day road cycling event and will take place just outside of Durham (UK) on Saturday 11 June 2022.

Over the course of the day, participants will cycle our 108-mile route, passing five wind farms on the way. Full support will be provided, including four feed stops, mechanical support and a broom wagon.

You can sign up for the physical event as an individual or as a team (including corporate teams). You can also choose to ride the whole route, or to form a relay team. For the physical event, we ask that each participant pledges to raise a minimum of £200.

Registration Fee:

Your £35 registration fee includes:

  • Event merchandise: a finisher’s medal (please note you have now missed the cut-off date for receiving an Earth Wind & Tyre jersey).
  • During the ride: four well-stocked feed stops along the route (approx. every 20 miles), full mechanical support, a broom wagon and well-equipped support team.

Registration for the physical event closes on 31 May 2022.

The Virtual Event

If you can’t join us in person, or would simply prefer to join virtually, then sign up for the virtual event. Make it your Earth Wind & Tyre, your way, wherever you are.

You can sign up for the virtual event as an individual or as a team (including corporate teams). For the virtual event, we ask that each participant pledges to raise a minimum of £100 for your 100 miles of cycling.

Registration Fee:

Your £20 registration fee includes:

  • Event merchandise: a finisher’s medal will be posted to you upon completion of your challenge.
  • Fundraising and pre-event support: a dedicated member of staff will be on hand to provide tips and advice on how to smash your fundraising target and plan your virtual challenge.

How will the Virtual Event Work?

Your challenge as a virtual participant is to cycle a total of 100 miles during the month of June 2022. With the virtual event, you have the flexibility to choose where and how to carry out your challenge. You can also keep track of your mileage by logging your rides or your virtual miles direct to your fundraising page.

  • Where: at home or outside, the choice is yours! This challenge could be completed at home on a static bike or get route planning and create your own 100-mile route in your local area.
  • When: please complete your 100-mile challenge during the month of June 2022, and if you can, we would love to have as many of our virtual participants as possible doing their challenge on the day of our physical event (Saturday 11 June).
  • For all abilities: you can choose to cycle your 100 miles in a single day or clock up your 100 miles in bite size chunks (e.g. cycle 20 miles a day for five days). Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just getting started with cycling, you can adjust this challenge to suit your own cycling ability.
  • How do I log my miles? Log your miles on your fundraising page by connecting it with a Strava account. That way, your donors will be able to keep track of your progress and see where you feature on the event leader board.

Ordering additional event merchandise:

  • Finisher’s Medal: you will automatically receive an Earth Wind & Tyre finisher’s medal, the cost of this is included in your registration fee and it will be posted to you upon completion of your 100-mile challenge.
  • Cycling Jersey: if you would also like to receive an Earth Wind & Tyre cycling jersey, we can order this for you on request. Simply select the option on your registration form and it will be posted to you ahead of the event. Jersey orders must be placed by 12 April.
