We’re delighted to announce that Gethin Jones is taking on the London Duathlon later this week, along with two of his closest friends Oli and Sandra, for Renewable World.
Gethin first got involved with Renewable World in 2013 when he visited communities in Nepal for the BBC Lifeline Appeal. “I was truly inspired by the work this amazing charity does and decided to become an Ambassador”. Gethin visited a community who were benefitting from a solar-powered water pump installed by Renewable World. This water pump meant that women and young children didn’t have to spend hours each day making the hazardous journey to fetch water far away from their homes.
The visit had a real impact on Gethin and in 2014 he and Oli self-funded a visit to another Renewable World project, this time to Kenya. “We met people living in desperate poverty who are now seeing their lives completely transformed because of solar-powered Energy Hubs installed in their communities. They now have electricity to light their homes, chill their food and power their businesses. This means better education, better health, better incomes, better lives and better futures”.
Looking to challenge himself after Rio, Gethin has been inspired to push his fitness and fundraising even harder. “I truly believe in what Renewable World is doing. Every penny donated goes where it should be going. I guarantee it. I know them, I’ve seen it. They are changing lives”.
Thank you to all who have sponsored Gethin, Oli and Sandra so far. You can still support their fundraising here.
