After three years as CEO of Renewable World, Eamon Cassidy has decided to retire from a 40-year career in international development to focus on voluntary work in the nonprofit sector and other opportunities.

Eamon has served Renewable World with exceptional commitment since joining the Board of Trustees in 2021. When the CEO position became vacant in 2023, he transitioned from the Board into the executive team and has since guided the organisation through a period of significant growth and transformation.

Under his leadership, we have expanded our programmes portfolio, ensured the long-term sustainability of our finances, professionalised our governance structure and revitalised the organisation with a wave of new talent across our teams in the UK, Nepal and Kenya.

On behalf of the entire Board, we would like to thank Eamon for his calm, thoughtful leadership and his unwavering dedication to Renewable World. He leaves with our sincere thanks and appreciation, and we wish him all the best for the future.

As we look ahead, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Alexandra Richardson, known as Al, as Renewable World’s new CEO. Since joining the organisation as Global Programmes Director in 2023, Al has made an enormous contribution to our effectiveness, impact and strategic focus. She brings a wealth of international development experience, having previously worked with Practical Action, World Vision and Toybox, including eight years living and working in Nepal, the Solomon Islands and Myanmar.

As we begin this new chapter, we remain committed to our mission of enabling people to thrive through access to clean energy, and we look forward to building on this work with our dedicated staff, partners and supporters under Al’s leadership.

“I have enjoyed every day of my time with Renewable World. I am delighted that our programmes, our funding and our impact have continued to grow, and I am immensely proud of the work we do in Nepal and Kenya, bringing clean energy solutions to help people living in poverty to transform their lives. I leave knowing Renewable World is in excellent hands with Al, and I look forward to seeing the organisation continue to grow and inspire change.”
