Two brave fundraisers from Renewable World's charity partner Consense – Emma and Sarah took on the muddy British Military Fitness Major Event Series last week in aid of Renewable World.
As part of a business which specialises in community engagement for the renewable energy sector, Consense employees have committed themselves to spending the next year raising money in a number of ways (such as through sporting challenges), in a bid to raise as much money as possible to support the work of Renewable World.
The British Military Fitness (BMF) Major series therefore acted not only as a personal challenge for Emma and Sarah, but also the opportunity to kick-start the Consense fundraising campaign.
Braving the Mud
Sarah and Emma regularly attend BMF sessions in Holywells park in Ipswich and decided to challenge their fitness levels (and progress) via the major series event. Set in the grounds of a 3000 acre private estate, the Major Series is an assault course featuring a number of obstacles, including stench trenches, blockade walls and waist-high mud pits- with participants tackling barbed wire, crossing rope bridges, and bracing themselves for freezing water. Fortunately the weather was overcast, but the sheer number of people taking part (800+) meant that the course was sufficiently muddy.
The hills proved a challenge, but Sarah and Emma managed to complete the course within 1hr 30mins and crossed the finish line with smiles on their faces- unfortunately their coach driver didn’t however, share their enthusiasm for their dishevelled appearance!
Swamp Monster Success
Not content at completing the series alone, Sarah and Emma embarked on the assault course tied together and in fancy dress. Emma told Renewable World; we thought ‘swamp monsters’ was a particularly apt costume choice, as any mud encountered during the course would simply aid our appearance! We also often partner each other during BMF sessions, so felt completing the course together (by attaching ourselves with an elastic thread) would spur us on; whilst sustaining the camaraderie instilled during BMF sessions.
Well done to Emma and Sarah for making such a great effort to raise money for Renewable World!
