A great day out at the Antal Spendenlauf

June 16, 2012

I wasn't sure what to expect today – Renewable World has had lots of people take part in all sorts of runs and other challenges to raise money for our cause – and we love to go along and cheer them on.  But this one was in Hamburg, with over 30 runners – and I have no idea how to say "well done!" (or anything else for that matter) in German.  But of course I shouldn't have worried.  People from the wind industry are pretty global thinkers and most of them spoke perfect English – and for those who didn't, they still seemed to understand me when I said "Would you like a beer and some cake?"

The Spendenlauf was run as part of the HSH Nordbank run which takes place in HafenCity, the harbour area of Hamburg, every year. Our Corporate Supporter, Executive Recruitment company, Antal International chose this event to organise a special run for Renewable World, because not only is it in a great part of Hamburg, and in the north of Germany where much of Germany's wind industry is based, but also today, 16th June, was the day after Global Wind Day.

Over 30 runners from Antal, WPD and Lichtblick took part, raising over €1,000 so far (with more still coming in), and thanks to the fact that Antal International generously covered all of the costs of the event, with t-shirt sponsorship from KCI all of that money will go towardsbringing the benefits of renewable energy to some of the 1.3 billion people in the world who live without access to modern energy sources.

We had such a fun day and everyone seemed up for doing it again next year.  If you'd like to join us, get in touch!  The Spendenlauf course is a 4km long track goes through the Hafen city near the river Elbe and can be completed as either a walk or a run so it is really easy for everyone to take part. Teams of 10 people start the run together, although they do not have to finish all at the same time. Don't worry if you do not have 10 people – we can join companies together to make teams of 10.  The start times are staggered – with a team starting every 30 to 60 seconds. Each team is introduced by name, by an announcer with a microphone, so it’s a great chance to publicise your company and Renewable World!!

We made it!  Wim Keen from Antal, arrives back at the tent with Bianca Muller and Thais Santos from WPD

A well deserved beer for a couple of the Lichtblick runners

Relaxing and networking over a beer and some snacks at the end of the run
