What is the international day of clean energy?
The 26 January has been declared by the United Nations General Assembly as the International Day of Clean Energy. Through it, the UN seeks to shine a light on, and mobilise action for, a just and inclusive transition to clean energy for the benefit of people and the planet.
“Launching an International Day of Clean Energy is a powerful way to remind the world of its commitment to universal clean energy access and meeting the Paris Agreement climate goal.” – IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera
Clean energy for people and planet
The UN highlights the importance of leaving no one behind and protecting the planet. We couldn’t agree more. At Renewable World we enable people living in poverty to transform their lives by improving their access to clean energy, empowering them to develop sustainable and resilient livelihoods, and mitigating the impact of climate change.
In 2022-23 alone we reached 50,065 people in Kenya and Nepal. This includes 7,911 people who are now able to access clean energy for productive use. 1,396 people who are now using a safe and reliable solar-powered water supply. And eight remote health facilities which have been electrified to meet the 24/7 healthcare needs of 21,082 people in remote communities.
We are delighted to introduce Renewable World’s Annual Report and Accounts for 2022-23, which demonstrates an organisation in a strong financial position and going from strength to strength in broadening and deepening our reach and our impact. Our work is making a real difference to people’s lives and credit for this success lies with the communities with which we work, our local partners, our amazing staff and the individuals, government organisations, foundations and companies who generously fund our programmes.
– Eamon Cassidy, CEO
