Overview

The Clean Energy Transforming Fishing and Farming Livelihoods (E4ICE2) is a three-year project in Kenya which will take the learnings from the pilot E4Ice project and scale up the learnings. The project will work with a private sector company (E-Safiri) and a local fabricator to make a suitable ice-making machine in Kenya. This will significantly reduce post-harvest losses and improve market access for 400 fisherfolk and 100 smallholder farmers. The Beach Management Unit (BMU) will be trained on the operationalisation of the system, financial oversight, and improved governance. Fisherfolk and smallholder farmers will be linked to markets and trained and support to demand a fair price for their produce. The whole community will also benefit from improved access to safe water. Overall, 7,500 people will benefit from this project, with the potential for more as enterprises copy this approach and reach more communities.
