Overview
Renewable World (RW) implemented the ‘Clean Energy for Improved Health Kenya Project (E4HII-Kenya)’ being the second phase of the successful pilot project implemented by RW in partnership with the County Government of Kajiado (CGK), Department of Health. The project aimed at improving the health status of people from the catchment area of seven health facilities in Kajiado County.
The project successfully installed solar power systems at the seven targeted health facilities. This has enabled them to offer services during the nighttime, reliably refrigerate medicines and vaccines, and operate other relevant electrical equipment. An awareness raising campaign was conducted to promote the uptake of services at the health facilities, including newly available services, and raised awareness on key public health and hygiene topics. As a result, the communities are aware of the improved facilities, and this led to an increase of over 40% in people visiting the health facilities in just one year. Vaccination coverage increasing by nearly 20% with catch up for people who missed vaccines was continuing. And when asked, 98% of women said that they would give birth at the health post.
Objectives & Outcomes
