Caroline Gutridge from RES

“It was great to participate in Renewable World’s Earth Wind & Tyre event. I have never cycled over 200 miles (over 2 days) with such a huge amount of hills. I definitely underestimated how hard it is to go up such a height range (4,000m over the 2 days). However, there was nothing going to stop me from completing the 2 days, especially after the generous sponsorship from my family, friends and work colleagues (a big thank you to them!). I didn’t want to disappoint them and I trained a lot (almost every weekend and weekday for the last 3 months).”

“I also want to thank the Alpha 6 cycle team who adopted me as one of their own and actually increased my average speed from 11mph to 12 mph in the second day!”

“With trepidation I accepted the generous “offer” to join one of the sponsors, KONA, on the challenging Earth Wind & Tyre cycle event. When I entered the route into Strava it showed up a lot of climbing which I discounted and said to myself that Strava isn’t always right, I was quite wrong. As a friend of mine explained, Northumberland is a mountain! That said, Christian, a French chap from EDF Renewables set a challenging but superb route taking us over every hill and byroad between Durham and Edinburgh, not only passing many wind farms but also keeping us on roads with little or no traffic. Chapeau Christian!”

“Overall it was a fantastic experience, spectacular scenery, great cycling, meeting many great participants and generally a very well humoured atmosphere along with a well organised and run itinerary.”
